Bega On The Go - Retail Promotions Committee

2002 - World Biggest Pyjama Party, Bega. Offficially recorded for the Guinness Book of World Records. This promotion was recognised as making a major contribution to Bega winning the Best Chamber of Commerce in NSW Award in 2002.

The Bega Chamber's retail promotions committee, Bega On the Go, is very active. We've had promotions for:-

Black Friday

The World Biggest Pyjama Party

Bad Hair Day

Spring Into Bega

Christmas (every year!!)

and many more...

The events usually involve closing a part of the main street and adding all sorts of fun rides for kids, music, colour and plenty of people everywhere.

The real benefit for members is not just on the day - it's the two or three weeks of sales before the day when each sale over $5 earns the shopper a ticket on the rides.

Bega Loves to Dress Up

Chris Murphy, Bega On The Go Committee, has no shortage of zany, fun ideas for the mainstreet that shoppers and kids just love to get involved in.

Chris Murphy, with Fletchers Fotographics, has been supporting the Bega On The Go Committee for years with lots of ideas and heaps of resources for the easy going, fun ideas that characterise retail promotions that Bega has become known for.

If it means dressing up and having a lot of fun for the whole community, the retailers will be in it because it means money for the town.

Other members of the Committee include people from our local paper, The Bega District News, our commercial radio station, East Coast Radio 2EC and lost of dedicated business people from Bega who each add their own brand of humour and business sense for a great promotion. Let's face it Bega is a great place to shop!

The Chanel Cole Phenomenon

Chanel Cole - The personality of an angel. The voice of a diva. Chanel made a lasting impression on all of us while we were lucky enough to see her sing. Thanks Chanel!

Wow! Who would have thought that the girl who works in Bega would end up a star on Australian Idol.

Chanel first wowed us at the 2003 Bega Outstanding Business Awards. Her talent discovered, she was soon in demand for guest appearances for the Chamber.

This remarkable person enthralled us weekly on TV and made modern history by showing the nation we were a town rich in arts, community and business.

The poster to the right shows Chanel engaged in serious retail activities throughout the year. This is our lifestyle. Are you ready?

Bega Outstanding Business Awards

The "Clock" Award. Each one of these is individually cast, hand finished and personalised for the winners announced at the Bega Outstanding Business Awards.

An initiative of the Bega On The Go Committee, the Bega Outstanding Business Awards night is the gala event of the year for Bega business people.

Members of the community nominate a business for an award in August and September. The business is then secretly judged for quality of service, presentation and product knowledge.

During the Awards night businesses are Awarded either a highly commended or the "Clock" Award being the highest recognition for excellence in business services.

Bega has seen a marked improvement in the presentation of shops and in the quality of service to shoppers.

Bega has developed a strong culture of good, friendly service partly as a result of the incentive to win a "Clock" at the Awards and also becuase we are just great people with a strong sense of community.

As many people who move here are finding, it's easy to make friends in Bega and locals are happy to make you feel welcome and at home while you are in town.
