The Disability Trust

As mentioned in previous newsletters, The Disability Trust has been progressively establishing connections and building relationships across the Illawarra and South Coast regions. Tourism Navigators are coaching, training, and improving inclusive workplace practices within small to medium sized businesses. Employers who are participating in the pilot have completed training programs and opened opportunities for job seekers to gain experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. Job seekers have been given the opportunity by some employers to gain work experience, job trials and open employment.

If your business would like to engage in the pilot, please contact michelle.carter@disabilitytrust.org.au 0492 351 749. Funded by the Department of Social Services https://www.dss.gov.au/

Mural

If you haven’t seen it already, there is a mural currently being painted adjacent to the Bega Soldiers Memorial on the Reject Shop wall. This is being done by the Bega RSL Sub-branch in the lead up to the 100 year anniversary of the memorial, which was built to honour all men and women from Bega who have served over the years. The Chamber was pleased to contribute funds for the work to be done. The 100th anniversary event will take place on Saturday the 25th of May.

Networking Night

Our latest first networking event was held last Wednesday the 17th of March. For something a little bit different we met in the Bega Village Shopping Centre hosted by Centre manager Joanna Ravan.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Sanchee Barnes who has developed an app called CanXsee. Sanchee lives in the Eurobodalla and appreciates the need to support local business which is the basis for the new app. The app has been running in the Eurobodalla for a couple of months and is now being launched in the Bega Valley. To find out more information go to https://canxsee.com/
