April Update

McKee Drive Precinct –

The Bega Chamber is pleased to announce that it has been successful in securing a grant to prepare a business case for the redevelopment of the former Bega Hospital site.
We have engaged the services of NGH Consulting whose head office is in Bega. NGH employ around 200 staff in all corners of the country. They come well credentialed to carry out the business case which will deliver an achievable, well-scoped development proposal.
It will be critical to include all potential stakeholders in the planning including plenty of public consultation. Dates will be announced shortly where the public will be invited to come and share their views on the future use of the property.

Members Meeting – Thursday 4th May

Our next full members meeting will take place next Thursday the 4th of May. The meeting will be held at the Commemorative Civic centre at 5:30pm with drinks and nibbles followed by the meeting at 6:00pm. We have lots of information to pass onto our members and also wish to get feedback on a number of issues, so we would encourage all members to come along.

School Holiday History Challenge

As mentioned last month, over the recent School Holidays the Chamber organised a Holiday History Challenge for kids and families to get involved with, going around town and learning a little bit of history. We had 22 business involved.
The final answer was at the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre where participants could exchange their completed answer sheet for a free ice cream. We would like to thank Peter Lacey from South Coast History for pulling together the information and photos. Many of our retailers reported families coming in to find the answer to the question that related to the location.

Old Bega Hospital (old old hospital)

It has now been 19 years since a fire reduced the main building at the Old Bega Hospital to its current state. Over the years, the Friends of the Old Bega Hospital have been raising funds and applying for grants to restore the building back to its former glory. This Saturday they are inviting everyone to the site for a picnic and to hear a very important announcement about its future. Be there at around 11:30am for a 12:00pm announcement.

New Member

This month we would like to welcome
Jess O’Donnell from Sapphire Coast Weddings and Events to our membership. Jess is well known to the Chamber and was the Emcee for our recent International Women’s Day event. We trust that she like all our members gets real value from being a member of the Bega Chamber of Commerce.
